Workforce automation and management
Case Studies

Work Nexus™ was selected to facilitate Web-enabled program management for a Fortune 100 aerospace/defense customer. Work Nexus™ provides a managed services Program in 15 primary locations nationwide, and our MSP is also supported by on-site program offices. We currently manage over 65 suppliers and approximately 1,200 contract employees in all labor categories.

Work Nexus™ was able to standardize the major processes associated with contract labor activity for this customer. Today, all hiring managers and all associate suppliers use a single system, resulting in streamlined program administration, reduced administrative burden, reduced cycle time, improved documentation and reporting, and the delivery of significant cost savings through adherence to competitive markup rates.

In addition to the above, Work Nexus™ successfully accomplished the following initiatives:

  • The establishment of a New Hire Checklist to confirm that all pre-assignment policies are followed (e.g., drug testing and background checks)
  • The implementation of a competitive overtime bill rate formula
  • The elimination of the use of independent contractors
  • The introduction of a competitive temporary to direct conversion program
  • The integration of the customer’s backend financial system with Work Nexus™
  • The implementation of master billing and master supplier remittance
  • The designation of one point of contact for all staffing issues
  • The establishment of associate supplier agreements that require participants to have proper insurance coverage
  • The simplification of handling rate increase requests through a pre-established methodology
  • The establishment of a Web-automated payrolling for the customer’s referred temporary personnel
  • The identification of a single process to measure supplier performance

Work Nexus™ was selected by a Fortune 500 customer to provide an onsite managed services program (MSP) with the goals of expediting the staffing process and reducing costs. Accordingly, we became responsible for the staffing and administrative matters associated with the contract labor population, covering all their job disciplines. We also instituted overall process improvements, such as the execution of Associate Supplier Agreements (including agreements with M/WBE firms), creation of standardized policies and procedures, establishment of centralized master billing using EDI, administration of demand management initiatives (described below), and maintenance of a database for all contingent workers assigned to this customer.

In the last 10 years, the MSP evolved and expanded to include all contract labor spend in North America. The fully vendor neutral MSP has benefited all principals, and the rationalized Associate Supplier base has seen increased revenue. Today, our Work Nexus™-enabled program automates the contract labor processes for this customer throughout North America and adeptly accommodates French-Canadian language, as well as Canadian labor law and currency requirements.

Our teams were initially tasked with the following directives:

  • Reduced cycle-time for contingent employees through the use of Work Nexus™ automation
  • The reduction of more than 130 job titles/descriptions to 55
  • The establishment of a mandatory supplier rate card, which provides for a maximum labor rate, markup rate, and bill rate for each job title
  • Performance tracking of all contingent employees and the archiving of all rehireability information
  • The management of an assignment tenure policy that limits the number of months a contingent employee can remain on assignment
  • The implementation and management of several “Demand Management Initiatives” that are used to capture additional cost savings – for example, under the restrictive workday program, contingent employees are not allowed to work on three specific days prior to major holidays.
  • Supplier audits, which are used to confirm program compliance, including adherence to agreed-upon markup rates
